Arthur R. YBarra Jr.

Arthur R. YBarra, Jr passed in the hospital at 98 years of age on March 25, 2023, with his loving wife and children at his side. He was a devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church, in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was born in San Diego, California. He was predeceased by his parents Adelaide Rodgers Ybarra and Arthur Roger YBarra, Sr. with two brothers Walter Harold YBarra and Jerome Nathaniel YBarra; and his son-in-law Philip Gary Harrison. Survived by his wife of 77 years Dorothy Marion Rowe YBarra; four children, Arthur Roger YBarra, III and Aecha Marion YBarra ; Dorothy Virginia “Ginger” Harrison; Cynthia Ann Hocutt; Constance Hope Ogburn and Thomas Wray Ogburn; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was a member and Past Master of Tidal Wave Masonic Lodge #273; Seaboard Masonic Lodge #56; a Life Member of Scottish Rite Bodies Portsmouth; Life Member of Portsmouth Commandry #5 Knights Templar; Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Virginia, Port Norfolk #36; Portsmouth Shrine Club, Khedive Shrine Temple Greenbrier. Arthur was proud to serve his Country and was a Naval Veteran of WWII; Korea; Vietnam and retired after thirty years of service. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve; Veteran of Foreign Wars; Disabled Veterans; Fraternal Order of UDT / SEAL, Team Little Creek. After retirement from the United States Navy, he continued working at with the Virginia State Health Department as a Senior Environmental Health Specialist while serving as Past President of the State Health Association and President of the retired Sanitarians with the City of Portsmouth Health Department. Arthur was a very kind, caring and giving person to his friends and family. He will truly be missed. The family will receive friends at Loving Funeral Home Friday April 7, 2023, from 4:30pm – 6:00pm with a masonic service starting at 4:30pm. A service with Full Military Honors will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 500 Court Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704 on Saturday April 8, 2023, at 1:00pm with Father Grant officiating. Parking at Trinity- there is a city lot between County and King streets with parking available on Saturdays. Please park in any space marked Trinity or numbered without a business name.
