Roy Alfred McGehee

Roy Alfred McGehee, age 91 of Suffolk, VA, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on January 8, 2021. He was born in Guilford County, NC to Fannie H. and Henry N. McGehee. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 70 years, Fay Whitfield McGehee, daughters Joyce Kupetz, Shirley Darden and son-in-law Brooks, son David McGehee and daughter-in-law Lisa, five special grandchildren, Kristin Edwards (Chris), Alex Kupetz, Jr. (Amanda), Sam and Jake McGehee, and Will Darden; 4 great-grandsons Hudson, Ryder, Maddox, Alex III, and a great granddaughter due in June. He was predeceased by his sister, Eloise McGehee three brothers, Harry, Robert and Gene McGehee, and son-in-law Alex Kupetz. Roy was a graduate of Cradock High School and earned his B. S. in Engineering from Virginia Tech. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. After several years of working on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company, Roy and Fay made the brave decision for him to leave Ford and return to college to earn his degree in Engineering. With a wife and young daughter at home, Roy became a full-time student at Virginia Tech. This decision served them well as he then spent the next 32 years at Ford Motor Company and retired as the Manufacturing Engineering Manager at the Norfolk Assembly Plant. After retiring, Roy used his many talents for architecture, woodworking and mechanical ability to design their new dream home. He managed the construction of this new project. Afterwards, they spent the next 20 plus years traveling in their motorhome and vacationed each winter in Florida, where they met lifetime friends from all over the U.S. Roy enjoyed the warm weather, playing tennis, and spending time with friends. Roy was known by all as a man of integrity, honesty and a sense of fairness. Roy was a member of the Merrill White Bible Class at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, Fellowship Masonic Lodge #100, Past Patron of Fellowship Chapter #140, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was also a past member of Colonial Virginians RV Club, the NRA and Shriners. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the special devotion, kindness and care given by Carolyn Spivey White. Roy and the rest of the family have been blessed by having her as part of our lives. We would also like to thank Rosa Bell for her assistance in caring for Roy. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Roy’s memory to the Merrill White Bible Class, Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, 4316 Bruce Road, Chesapeake, VA 23321. Arrangements are being handled by Loving Funeral Home I think anyone who knew our Dad Surely will agree… They didn’t make a finer man Than Mr. Roy McGehee!
