Alex John Kupetz, Sr.

Alex John Kupetz, Sr. (aka “Senior”), age 66 of Chesapeake, VA, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on April 20, 2018. He was born in Jacksonville, FL to Alexis C. and Elsa F. Kupetz. He has now been reunited with them in Heaven. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter Kristin, son-in-law Christopher, son Alex Jr., daughter-in-law Amanda; three special grandsons Hudson, Alex III, Ryder and another making his debut in July; five brothers and sisters - Joan (Hank), Richard (Joy), Susie (Jack), John, and Robert; in-laws Roy and Fay McGehee, sister and brother-in-law Shirley (Brooks), and David (Lisa); as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Alex didn’t know a stranger, and had a genuine love of people. He loved visiting all of his many friends, and spending time, not only with his wife and best friend, Joyce, whom he married 44 years ago, but with his children and grandsons. His most recent joy was collecting toys for his grandsons to make Granddaddy’s house the best place of all to visit. Alex was a graduate of Bayside High School class of 1971. Upon graduating, he became a proud member of the Naval Reserves and earned an Associate’s Degree at Tidewater Community College. From a young age, Alex had a passion for cars. He was blessed to be given the ability and opportunity to work with them throughout his 30-year career as a Material Handling Supervisor for Ford Motor Company. Alex cherished his time at Ford, and maintained close friendships with many colleagues throughout the years. Since retiring, Alex continued to pursue his love of cars through collecting and showing his special prized possessions. Alex was an active member in the community. His positive, fun loving, outgoing demeanor and warm smile was contagious. He belonged to the Masonic Fellowship Lodge #100, Khedive Shriner’s Mini Corvettes, and the Volkswagen Club of Tidewater. He was moved and motivated by the mission and values of these organizations and cared deeply about helping others. Visitation will be Friday, April 27th from 6-7:30 pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 28th at 11:00 am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Followed by a reception in the fellowship hall at Aldersgate United Methodist Church where Alex was an active member for more than 20 years. Donations may be made in Alex’s memory to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital, c/o of the Khedive Shrine Center, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320. Burial will be private at a later date.
