Andrew Boots Johnson, Jr.

Andrew Boydston Johnson, Jr. "Boots", 84, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday December 19, 2007. Boots was a native of Portsmouth, a member of Churchland Baptist Church, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Norfolk Naval Shipyard Apprentice School, University of Richmond where he received his Bachelor in Arts, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Theology, Bowman Gray School of Medicine where he received his certificate in Pastoral Counseling, and attended James Madison University. Over the years he was affiliated with Southside Baptist Church in Chesterfield Co., VA, Lovingston Field of Churches in Nelson, Co, Shenandoah Baptist Church in Shenandoah, VA and Linden Heights Baptist Church in Staunton, VA. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, in 1985 where he worked as an Administrative Officer for Mechanical Group, Administrative Officer for PERA, Nuclear Instructor and Industrial Engineering Technician. Boots was the son of Marion Bruce Gaskins Johnson and Andrew Boydston Johnson, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Clarice Collier Johnson; four children, Bruce Loren Johnson and wife, Donna, James Lowell Johnson and his wife, Hazel all of Suffolk, Karen Leigh Johnson and Cheryl Lynn Johnson Randolph both of Portsmouth; two brothers, Marvin W. Johnson and his wife, Mildred of Norfolk, James L. Johnson and his wife, Barbara of Chesapeake; 3 sisters, Patricia J. Richmond and husband, William of Chesapeake, Betty J. Rhodes of Portsmouth, Mary Leigh J. Jones and her husband, Joseph of Superior, WI; a sister-in-law, Sandra T. Johnson, of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren, Loren Elizabeth Johnson, Andrea Brooke Johnson, James Myles Smith, Ivy Lynn Randolph, Travis Andrew Randolph, Casey Emerson Randolph, April Gardner Craig, and Crystal Gardner Wise; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul C. Johnson and Marion Bruce Johnson. He was a member of Portsmouth Masonic Lodge #100, Mt. Horib Royal Arch Chapter #11, former Bennetts Creek Area Rescue Squad member who received the 1985 Life Membership Award for service, Portsmouth Amateur Radio Club, Virginia Fone Net, radio operator K4ZMM and a Naval Veteran of WWII. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel by Rev. Lawrence B. Coleman with burial in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Thursday from 6:30-7:30p.m.
