Beverly Cross Curles

Beverly Cross Curles died peacefully on February 25th 2023. She was 64 years old. Beverly was born in Loma Linda California to Lawrence and Luanne Cross while her father was attending dental school at Loma Linda University. She is predeceased by her husband Archie Curles who died in 2017, her father Dr. Lawrence N. Cross who died in 2002, and her sister Marilynn Cross Schander who died in August 2021. Left to treasure her memory is her mother Luanne Cross, her sister Leanne Gordon (Doug Gordon), and her two children Laura Sawyer (Chris Sawyer), and her children Abigail Sawyer, James Sawyer, Christian Sawyer. Daughter, Caroline Curles Ellis and her children Evenlyn Ellis and Arabella Ellis. Beverly was a beautiful girl with dark hair and dark eyes like her mother. She moved to Virginia with her parents in 1961 when her father returned home to Portsmouth, VA and opened his dental practice. Beverly enjoyed growing up on the river - sailing and swimming and playing with her cousins. She attended Christian schools for elementary, High School and completed 2 yrs of college. She was a certified Life Guard in HS and nurses aide during her college years. She married Archie and spent many happy weekends camping with her girls on Little River in Hertford NC. She was an expert at multitasking at home and at work - one of those people who could listen in class and study while watching TV or listening to music and make straight A’s. She worked in dentistry as an office manager for over 30 yrs - most of which was with her father’s dental practice. The dentist that bought the practice said “working with Beverly was like working with another dentist”. Beverly had a very compassionate and caring personality. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, painting, going to the beach and collecting shells, gardening, beading and making jewelry. She loved music and singing in the choir at church. She also enjoyed keeping up with friends and family on Facebook. Beverly had a very compassionate and caring personality. Sadly the years after her cardiac surgery in 2016 were difficult and her health continued to decline. Despite her poor health she was strong in her faith and her love for her family. A Memorial Service will be held at the Loving Funeral Home in Portsmouth, 3225 Academy Avenue, Portsmouth, VA 23703 on March 19, 2023 at 11am. Followed by Visitation and Repast at 1pm at the Western Branch Seventh Day Adventist Church 5060 Portsmouth Blvd. Chesapeake, VA. 23321.
