Billy E. Cuddington

Billy E. Cuddington left his earthly body for a heavenly one on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011. He was born and raised in the tobacco farming region surrounding Kenly, North Carolina. Newly married in 1948, Billy and his young bride, Hilda, pioneered a new life pursuing opportunities in Tidewater Virginia. Billy first worked in the South Norfolk US Gypsum plant and then ventured into the then new avenue of heating and air conditioning. He opened and successfully operated Billy's Heating and Cooling for over 50 years. Billy and Hilda's success encouraged many family and friends from North Carolina to migrate to the Tidewater area. Many of them initially stayed with Billy and Hilda as they started their new lives. Billy loved his family, his church and his customers and rarely, if ever, thought of himself. He was one of the most generous men ever to walk this earth and will always be remembered for his caring and gentle manner. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Hilda H. Cuddington. Left to cherish their memories of him; beloved daughters, Carolyn C. Cramer and husband John V. Van Cramer of Spring, TX, Edna C. Smith and partner Michael Enslen of West Chester, OH, and Susan C. Clark of Suffolk, VA; four grandchildren, George R. Kahn, III and wife Holly W. Kahn of Portsmouth, VA, Renée K. Holoubek and husband George Holoubek of Spring, TX, Stacy P. Fisher and husband Clayton W. Clay Fisher of Denver, NC, and John W. Cramer of Spring, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashton, Matthew, Madeline, Abigail, Nathaniel, and Evan; a great-great grandchild, Nicholas, Jr. He is also survived by siblings, C. Chester Cuddington, J. Ralph Cuddington and wife Penny, Ruth C. Forehand and husband Paul, Wade H. Cuddington and wife Sharon and many loved nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and brothers and sisters in Christ. Billy's life was a testimony to his Lord in many ways. His testimony was shown through the love and guidance he gave his family, through his devotion and service to his church. He also met the needs of many through his heating and air conditioning service. The family will receive friends at Loving Funeral Home Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Alexander Baptist Church, 4316 Pamela Court, Chesapeake, VA 23321. Committal will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Giving God's Way building fund at Alexander Baptist Church.
