Brenda Louise Joseph

Brenda Louise Joseph, 54, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2025. She passed away at home with her mother by her side. Brenda Louise was born to Brenda and Edward Eugene Joseph in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was an honors graduate of Cradock High School, class of 1989. She received her master’s degree in education from Old Dominion University. After she received her master’s degree, she served for 25 years at Cradock Middle School, primarily teaching mathematics. Brenda Louise was the 2021 Portsmouth Public Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, serving as a teacher in Sunday school, AWANA, and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of Beverly Wyatt’s “My Girl” Sunday school class at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. Brenda Louise loved her family. She is survived by her mother, Brenda Woodward Joseph; her brother, William Avery Joseph Sr.; her stepbrother, Michael E. Joseph; her uncle, James E. Woodward, and his two sons and their children; and her aunt, Barbara Brown. Extended family members include: a niece, Patricia Ramsey and her family; a step-great cousin, Christopher and Brenda Willis and their family; a step-niece, Stephanie Delos Reys; two nephews, Michael Joseph and William Joseph; her cousins, Ericka Ward Madrey and her family, and Bianca Ward Kuye, and her family; her niece, Melody Dupree; and Ernest L. Woodward, Jr. and his family; and her family members in Pensacola, Florida. Brenda Louise held a special bond with Christopher J. Willis, Neveah, Harmonii, Michael Williams, and her fur baby, Midnight. Brenda Louise was predeceased by her father, Edward Eugene Joseph; her cousin, Sandra Woodward Godfrey; her stepbrother, James Joseph; an uncle, Ernest Woodward, Sr., and her cousin, Virginia Lee Woodward Ward Caldeyro. A Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM in Loving Funeral Home. Reverend Todd Holt will conduct a funeral service on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM in Calvary Baptist Church, followed by a graveside service at Olive Branch Cemetery. The Joseph Family wished to offer heartfelt thanks to Brenda Louise’s Sentara Hospice nurse, Lisa B., and a special note of gratitude to Virginia Oncology for supporting Brenda Louise’s pancreatic cancer journey. They also wish to thank to the staff at Loving Funeral Home for their kindness during this difficult time.
