Carlton C. Marshall

Carlton Constine Marshall passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 28th, 2024, at the age of 95. Carlton was born in Messongo, VA to Marie and Earl Marshall. Carlton was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Marshall Jr., and sister, Yvonne Williams. Growing up on the Eastern Shore, Carlton spent a lot of his time on the water where he formed many of his fondest memories. He was married to the love of his life, the late Janice Louise Marshall, for 47 wonderful years until her passing. Carlton proudly served his country in the Korean War. Upon returning home, he went on to embark on a successful career by starting his own electrical business, demonstrating his dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. In 1962, Carlton and Janice welcomed their son, Steven S. Marshall, who brought immeasurable joy into their lives. Carlton also cherished his relationship with his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Brooks-Marshall. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Alison B. Marshall and treasured every moment spent with her. He is survived by his sister-in-law Jackie Ragan and her husband Tommy and nephew Mike. His family brought him immense happiness and fulfillment throughout his life. Carlton had a deep affection for animals. Whether caring for his family’s beloved cats–many of whom found comfort sleeping on his lap–or ensuring that raccoons and deer outside were well-fed, he demonstrated kindness toward all creatures. Carlton will always be remembered for his words of wisdom. He left a lasting impression on all who knew him. As a father and grandfather, he was an irreplaceable source of love and support. His family will miss him every day but will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lazenby for her kindness, care, and support shown to Carlton and his family throughout and beyond the time of his care. The family also wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the support and sympathy extended to them during this difficult time. A visitation will be held on January 16th, 2025, at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Loving Funeral Home in Portsmouth, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carlton’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, your local animal shelter, or a charity of your choice.
