Carolyn Hill

Edith Carolyn Hill, age 83, entered into eternal life on August 15, 2019. She was born at Parish Memorial Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Edith and James Bunn. Carolyn was a 1954 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Carolyn attended Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduation, she worked with Eastern Airlines until her marriage to the love of her life, Mickey. They moved to Tokyo, Japan where they were stationed for three years. They returned to Portsmouth where they raised their two children. After they were grown, Carolyn worked for the Portsmouth Public School System as a library clerk in Churchland until her retirement. She then became a travel guide with Fun Tours for 14 years. She joined the Beazley Senior Center and served on the board of The Friends of The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum. Carolyn’s greatest happiness came from spending time with her family, church and friends. We will forever remember her laughter, loyalty, grace, devotion, strong will and compassion for others. Our world is a better place because of her, and she will be greatly missed. Carolyn was predeceased by her sister Barbra G. Bunn. She will be held in loving memory by her husband, Gregory "Mickey" V. Hill, Sr.; son Gregory "Greg" V. Hill, Jr. and wife Sheryl; daughter Jacquelyn D. Hill; granddaughter Ashley N. Hare and husband Greg; grandson Gregory "Trey" V. Hill, III and fiancee Kaitlyn O'Neill; great-granddaughters Gia and Gemma; cousins Thomas Vaughan and wife Rita, Charles Vaughan and wife Kay, Eugene Bunn and wife Cathy; and her extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 19, 2019 at Centenary United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. Reverend John Cole, II will be officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Centenary United Methodist Church 3312 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703 in loving memory of Carolyn.
