George Geise

George Kennedy Geise, 71, of Portsmouth, Virginia, passed peacefully on May 9, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. The son of William Brice Geise and Sara Killen Geise, George was born on July 21, 1952 in Newtown, Pennsylvania. George spent his childhood in Pittsburgh, where he attended Baldwin Highschool and garnered a love for the Steelers. Upon completing high school, George enlisted in the Marines. After several years of faithful service to his country, including a tour in Okinawa, George was honorably discharged. Following his time in the service, George became an electrician. He worked several years in this field, continuing to evolve and grow in his trade. Also growing, was George’s family, in 1979 he welcomed his daughter, Jami; and his son, George “Bubba”, would arrive two years later to complete the family. George held other jobs through the years, many fun and some odd, ultimately retiring. In 2006, he took over Nick’s Hot Dogs, a staple in the Portsmouth community. Here, you would find George enjoying time with his customers through playful banter, good conversation and the occasional friendly wager. George was a lover of sports and enjoyed playing the game of golf. Off the course, George spent time at Town Point Pub or Mario’s where he would play pool. In his later years, with dwindling vision, George took up wood working. This new hobby meshed perfectly with George’s existing passions, as he was a lover of new projects, tending to his yard and spending time with his dog. With his large personality and compassionate nature, George never met a stranger. If he did, they were soon won over with his fun-loving personality and quick wit; which occasionally also got him into trouble. With that, it should come as no surprise that in his final weeks George had his nursing staff wrapped around his finger. To know George was to love him, and those who love him will miss him greatly. George was preceded in death by his father, William Brice Kennedy; loving mother, Sara Killen Geise; and brother-in-law, Patric McLaughlin. George is survived by his children, George (Stephanie Prever) Geise and Jami (Joe) Citrano; his granddaughters, Riley Geise and Lainia Citrano; and his beloved former wife, Lynn Piersall. Additionally, he leaves behind his siblings, William (Catherine) Geise and Cindi McLaughlin; nieces, Heather (Shayne) Powell and Sara-Kate (Kirby Ingram) McLaughlin; and nephew, Ian (Danielle) Geise. George will also be missed by his dear friend, Wayne “Chuck” Collier (Mitch Ann) and his cherished dog, Hailey. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
