Julius "JC" Carroll Dunn

Julius "JC" Carroll Dunn, 74, went to be with Jesus on June 7, 2013. He passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Dunn married his sweetheart, Nancy Longest Dunn who he loved and adored. They were married for over 54 years. He was a loving husband, Father, father-in -law and grandfather. Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Dunn; son, Timothy Dunn and his wife, Michelle; grandson, Ryan; son, Keith Dunn and his wife, Kelly; granddaughter, Megan; grandson, Tanner; three sisters, Lillie Mae Lewis and her husband, Clifton, Doris Phillips, Eleanor Christine Hill and her husband, Ernest as well as many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Joseph Dunn; mother, Mary Willis Dunn and two brothers, Julius Edward Dunn, and Anson Dunn. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1957 and retired as a Senior Chief after 20 years of service. During his career he served at many duty stations and his last post was in Portsmouth, VA where he was the Senior Special Agent in charge of Investigations. He completed training at the United States Air Force Office of Criminal Investigations. After retiring from the Coast Guard he worked at Virginia Chemicals where he served as an Administrative Assistant to the CEO. He served as an ordained Deacon at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA since 1977. He served as the Chairman of the Deacons, and a Trustee as well as many other committees. He sang in his church choir which he loved. He loved his Lord and it showed through his service to his church and others. His first love was his family which he loved spending time with, he loved the outdoors, and especially golfing and he even worked at Sleepy Hole Golf Course for nine years just so he could be on the greens. The other hobbies he enjoyed were woodworking, mechanics and softball. He enjoyed watching Ryan play soccer, baseball and basketball; Megan play soccer and Tanner play soccer. A special thanks to hospice nurses Eileen and Bonnie from Bon Secours for their loving care, compassion, kindness and support. The family will receive visitors at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel on Monday, June 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. and the funeral will be held on Tuesday June 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church and a graveside service to follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk, VA.
