Junior E. Campbell "BJ"

Junior E. Campbell, also known as BJ by his coworkers, 87, loving, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather went home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2016. He retired from Craney Island Fuel Depot after 35 years of Civil Service. During this time he also worked numerous part-time jobs. He was the owner and operator of Campbell’s General Hauling for 28 years. He mainly ran for Vulcan Material in their Suffolk and Portsmouth yards. He retired in 2012 due to cancer. He fought a courageous battle against this foe for almost 4 years. Snickers, his faithful companion, stayed by his side the entire time. Snickers will sorely miss him! Junior is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jo Campbell; children: Martha Campbell Smith& husband, Rev. Luther Smith, Wade Campbell and wife, Kim, the late Jeanie Campbell Clay, son-in-law, Tommy Clay, Peggy Campbell Wiggin, & daughter-in-law, Bonnie Connelly; 7 grandchildren: Joanna Blackwell & husband, Steve, Paul Smith & wife, Dawn, Luke Smith & wife, Casie, Crystal Jernigan & husband, Bobby, Heather Loveall & husband, Shawn, John Clay & wife, Cherish, Christopher Harvey & wife, Megan; 13 great-grandchildren: Amanda, Julianna, Makhayla, Danielle, Sarah, Taylor, Shawn, Savannah, Dylan, Emma, Mackenzie, Kaitlyn and Haylee; siblings: Sim Campbell & Sadie Pierce; Extended grandchildren and great grandchildren: Drew, Tiffany, Shannon, Jesse, Kendall, Lindsey, Lauren, Abby & Jackson. He was predeceased by his parents, Sadie & Elmo Campbell; siblings, Mac, Nell & Dale Campbell. He is survived by many other devoted family members & friends. The family visitation will be held at the Loving Funeral Home from 2—3pm prior to the service. The funeral service will be held following visitation at 3 pm by Rev. Kirk Dice with burial to follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are welcome to come visit our home after the graveside service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life or the Red Cross. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Tan Camacho, Dr. Mark Fleming and Dr. Soham Sheth and all the staff that cared for Mr. Campbell.
