Kenney M. Casto

Kenney Malcom Casto passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 21, 2021 at age 89. He was surrounded by his family in the home he shared with his beloved wife. Kenney was born to Neva Virginia Casto and Bovy Casto. He grew up in a close knit family with his 11 siblings in Philippi, West Virginia. He graduated from Philippi High School in 1950 and moved to Virginia in 1951. He worked at Liverman Motors where he met his bride-to-be Margaret Young who worked there as a secretary. They fell in love and married on March 22, 1952 at Calvary Church in Portsmouth. Together they raised their four children: Melody Ann, Laura Kay, Neva Lynn, and Kenney Michael. Kenney served in the Army during the Korean War and continued to be an active member of the American Legion Hall Post #310. Margaret and Kenney enjoyed 57 years together camping and traveling all over the United States, visiting all 50 states together. They were valued members of the National Campers and Hikers Association. They owned Casto’s Body Shop from 1976 to 1980, and he later retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Kenney was a devoted husband, loving father, and involved grandfather. He loved tinkering in his garage fixing things and sitting on his patio watching the neighborhood. Kenney is survived by: His daughter Melody (Dewey) Rowe, his grandson Brent (Gabby) Rowe, and great grandchildren Clayton and Oakley Rowe. His daughter Laura (Dan) Lupton, his granddaughter Erin (Toby) Pease, and great granddaughters Laura, Jackson, Catherine, and Danielle. His daughter Lynn (Frederick) Mullins, his granddaughter Jenny (Justin) Harris, and his great grandsons Caleb and Kenneth Mullins. His son Mike Casto (Angela Holliday), his grandchildren Heather (Ian) Trakowski, Nicole Casto, Brian D. Casto, Leslie (Ryan) Brown, and Chrisi (Lee) VanLear, and great grandson Easton VanLear. His brother Keith (Doris) Casto and his sisters Hope Thrasher, Shirley Louk, and Blanche (Rick) McDaniels and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. He was preceded in Heaven by his wife Margaret, his parents Neva and Bovy Casto, and his siblings Eugene Casto, Deloris Sponaugle, Charles Casto, Patricia Haller, James Casto, Edmund Casto, and Linda Casto. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 3:00pm at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Blvd., Chesapeake, VA, 23321. The family will receive visitors after the service at the Casto home. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully asks for donations to the American Legion Hall Post #310, 3107 American Legion Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23321.
