Richard Lee Sellers

Richard Lee Sellers, 75 years of age, passed away on June 24, 2025. He was a native of Portsmouth, Virginia. The son of Richard D. Sellers and Francis P. Sellers. Richard served in the United States Army for four years and later worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where he spent 39 years as a Refueling Mechanic before retiring. He also spent over 20 years giving back to the game of baseball and softball he loved so much, serving as an umpire for youth baseball and softball of all ages. Richard was predeceased by both his parents, Richard D. Sellers and Francis P. Sellers, his loving wife of 51 years, Dale M. Sellers, and his son, Christopher L. Sellers. Richard is survived by his three sons: Nathan P. Sellers and his wife, Donna; Joshua D. Sellers; and James R. Sellers and his wife, Megan. Four grandchildren: Jackson D. Sellers, Brooklyn M. Sellers, Skylar G. Sellers, and Oliver J. Sellers. He also leaves behind a sister, Joyce Allyn, and her husband, Michael, a brother, Ronald C. Sellers, and a cousin/brother, Jerry Barham. Richard was a loving, devoted husband and father. His family was his pride and joy; he would do anything he could for them. He always made sure his family had everything they would ever need. He selflessly dedicated countless hours to volunteering for his kids' interests without hesitation and never once complained. Richard had a love for the game of baseball from childhood, and it carried over into his adult life. The ballfield was his happy place. Whether he was playing as a young boy or as an adult later in life, watching his beloved New York Yankees play ball. When his playing days were behind him, he found another way to stay involved in the game he loved as an official, where he spent over 20 years, both locally and out of state, officiating ball games. The family would like to thank the staff of Northern Cardinal and the Amedisys Hospice care team for the excellent care they provided during Richard’s final days. A funeral service will be held at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Loving Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
