Bettie Orenduff Holland

Bettie Orenduff Holland, 97, was born in Portsmouth and passed away on Oct. 16, 2018 in her home in Williamsburg. She was a retired Librarian for the Portsmouth Public School System and a former member of Green Acres Presbyterian Church in Portsmouth. Bettie was predeceased by her parents Lillian Marie and Arthur Blunt Westbrook. She was one of 5 children and is survived by her brother William Westbrook of Portsmouth. Bettie is also survived by her children Bettie Ann Johnson and her husband Taylor, Linwood Orenduff and his wife Susan, Edward Orenduff and his wife Ann, Andrew Orenduff and his wife Shannon; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; stepchildren and many other devoted family members and friends. Bettie married Edward A. Orenduff on Feb. 26, 1938 and they were married until his death on Nov. 18, 1983. She was married to the late Robert Holland from Oct. 18, 1989 until his death on Jan. 30, 1997. Bettie loved to read, watch plays, movies and followed major league baseball. She was known to whistle throughout the day while doing her activities. Her favorite saying was “Oh Happy Day!”. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Duke Cancer Institute, 710 West Main Street, Suite 200, Durham NC 27701 “In Memory of Bettie Cole Orenduff Holland”. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11am Oct. 25, 2018 in the Alvin Anderson Auditorium, Williamsburg Landing, 5700 Williamsburg Landing Dr., Williamsburg, VA 23185. Bettie was nicknamed “Chinquapin” by her father and he told her this was a tree that was little but strong and had fruit that was sweet and happy.
