Doris Umphlett Ashe, 90, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017. She was born in Pasquotank Co., NC and she was a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. Doris was predeceased by her parents, Grizzell and Isaac Umphlett, her loving husband, Willard Rodman Ashe, son, Arthur Ashe and a granddaughter, Rebecca. She is survived by 2 children, Cynthia Beebe and husband Dannie, Rodney Ashe and wife Brenda; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and two on the way. For many years she was director of Rivershore Baptist Church’s Vacation Bible School, Past Chairperson of March of Dimes Mother’s March, Volunteered at Emily Green Home, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Heart Pavilion. A member of the Western Branch Women’s Club, President and Treasurer of Mended Hearts #63, Amaranth Court #6 and Past Royal Matron, President of Churchland Band Parents, President and Organizer of the Academy Portsmouth Baptist Association Sr. Choir, Chairman of Volunteers, American Heart Association, Cancer Society, former Secretary of the Portsmouth Junior Woman’s Club. Visitation will be 1:00 pm Monday in Loving Funeral Home with funeral service at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
