Ronald Dean Weiss died Friday, July 12, 2019 with his loving wife, E. Verle Weiss, and family by his side in Williamsburg, Virginia. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church at 11:30 am with interment and church reception to follow at the church. A Celebration reception will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Smithfield Winery. Ron is survived by Verle and their three children, Dana, Denton and David, one son-in-law, Jim and one daughter-in-law, Michelle, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Ron was born on the family farm in Charter Oak, Iowa to Clarence and Cleo Weiss. He grew up in Charter Oak and went on to college earning his bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and his master’s degree from the University of Nebraska - Omaha. Ron was a consummate educator his whole life and gentleman farmer. He had an extensive teaching career at Charter Oak-Ute, Denison and Manning High Schools. He taught college courses at Western Iowa Tech at both campuses in Denison and Sioux City, Iowa. He was an assistant professor at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa prior to moving to the east coast. In 2001, Ron and Verle moved to Portsmouth where they opened the Patriot Inn. His academic career did not end with their move to Virginia, but included eight more years at Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, Virginia. Ron and Verle traveled extensively though out the world, always making friends along the journey of life. He was actively involved in the Republican Party, and sat on the Trinity Episcopal Parish Vestry. Ron will be remembered for his wonderful spirit and love of America. He was proud of his family, friends and country. Truly a great man.
