Rosetta Lee Johnson Smith, 72, born in Portsmouth, VA, went to be with the Lord on November 22, 2018. Rosetta was an active member of Alexander Baptist Church, where she loved to feed the flock. She was a retired Civil Servant for the federal government. Rosetta’s greatest passion was to the area and nations youth where she volunteered for over 40 years with the Pony Baseball/Softball Organization. Rosetta was the acting East Zone, South Region, Northeast Section Region Coordinator for PONY and had been inducted into the PONY Hall of Fame. She spent countless hours at ballfields watching children play the game she loved. She was Nana to any child she ever met and made them all feel like they were part of her family. She will be greatly missed. Rosetta was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 50 years Oliver Milton Smith, Sr. She is survived by 5 children, Theresa (Ted) Waller, Cindy (Simon) Bettinger, Oliver “Buddy" Smith, Neel (Stacey) Smith, and Michele Brooks; 12 grandchildren, Nick (Jina), Jenny & Jacob Waller, Caitlin (Mark) Gottlieb, Troy Bettinger, Joseph, Casey & Nikki Smith, Hannah & Courtney Smith, Laurel & Billy Brooks; 4 great-grandchildren, Niaha, Nicholas, Denise & Jada Waller; 2 sisters Darlene Wylie & Debbie Johnson; brother Dwight Johnson; sister-in-law Candy Blanchard; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. Last but not least her loving and devoted dogs Max, Zoey & Tucker. The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday November 26, 2018 at Alexander Baptist Church by Dr. Bryan J. Ray. Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family requests, that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Alexander Baptist Church Giving God’s Way, 4316 Pamela Court, Chesapeake, VA 23321
