Timothy Cauldwell

Timothy James Cauldwell, 65, born in Portsmouth, Virginia to Joy Sloan Cauldwell and the late Bill Junior Cauldwell, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 24, 2024. Tim had a tenured career in the automotive parts and collision industry, getting his start at age 16 working alongside his father at Hoff Cadillac, then working for more than 38 years at Phillips Oldsmobile, now Charles Barker Mercedes. He loved working on cars, having served on the pit crew for many friends in amateur racing at Langley Speedway, and was frequently called on by family, friends and neighbors as their favorite mechanic. His love for cars was matched by his passion for coaching youth sports. Tim was a baseball, softball, football and basketball coach for more years than can be counted at Olive Branch Little League (OB) and Manor Basketball. It was at an OB baseball game that he met the love of his life Rene Stafford. Tim and Rene shared more than 44 years of marriage and went on to raise their two children, Shawn and Jennifer, on the courts and fields. The family’s fondest memories and greatest friends were made while playing sports. Tim led his baseball and softball teams to many district titles, and cherished the state tournament trips with his players who will remember him as their most loving and “animated” coach. As his children outgrew sports, Tim’s fandom turned to Old Dominion Athletics. He loved the Monarchs, especially basketball and football. His “Cauldwell Zone” tailgates will never be forgotten, and it is certain that the basketball refs will have an easier job without their biggest reviewer in the front row. In his spare time, Tim loved taking mountain road trips with friends on his Harley. He was rarely seen not wearing a Harley Davidson tee shirt. Tim was predeceased by his father, Bill Cauldwell; mother-in-law, Patricia Stafford; paternal grandparents, Sophia and Herchel Cauldwell; and maternal grandparents, Dewey and Delma Sloan. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Rene Cauldwell; children, Shawn Cauldwell (Cara) and Jennifer Garrott (Dirk); grandsons, Kellen and Logan Cauldwell; mother, Joy Cauldwell; father-in-law, Donald Stafford; sisters, Beth Moore (David) and Laura Keirn (Steve); brother, David Cauldwell (Connie); sisters-in-law, Shirley Aldrich, Cheryl Renfrow (Ken Donahue), Donna Thompson (Charles), and Denise Stafford; brothers-in-law, Mike Renfrow, Robbie Rutherford (Kelly), and Patrick Stafford (Kara); and his fur babies Buddy and Bella. Tim cherished his relationships with his many nieces and nephews, Amanda Scott (Matt), Mellisa Babb (Jason), Michelle Tibbetts (Shawn), Amber Marshall (Clayton), Brandi Castaneda (Daniel), Megan Thompson, Jessica Kitta (Michael), Ashley Pope (Josh), Sydney Mellides (CJ), Rebecca Stevenson, Daniel Moore (Tiffany), Christopher Hopkins (Rachel), Nicholas Hopkins (Mekennaih), Aaron Hopkins, Derek Hopkins (Victoria), Zachary Rutherford (Victoria), and Maxwell Stevenson. Fortunate to come from a large family, Tim shares many fond memories with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and grand nieces and nephews. Tim was blessed to have an amazing group of friends and co-workers through all phases of his life whom he treasured as family. While there are too many to name, the family wishes to thank you all for your support and love over the years. Life would not be the same without you. A memorial service to celebrate Tim’s life will take place Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 2pm at Green Lakes Baptist Church, 1610 Hodges Ferry Rd. Portsmouth, Virgina with Pastor Mark Carmen officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tim’s name to the American Diabetes Association or Alzheimer's Association.
