Troy Fernando Ilapit, age 52, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Obici Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Fernando and Ann Ilapit and was born in Portsmouth, was raised in Chesapeake, and resided in Smithfield, Virginia. Troy was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was especially proud to serve as Bishop of the Smithfield, Virginia Ward. Troy was a devoted husband and father who always put family first and never did anything without his eternal companion of 33 years, Lisa. He never met a stranger and was loved by everyone because of his sweet spirit and constant humor. Troy was an avid outdoors-man with a love for hunting and fishing. He enjoyed making memories camping with his family in the tiny house that he and his wife Lisa built together in the mountains of Virginia. Troy was always creating adventures for his grandkids and will be tremendously missed by his abundance of friends and family. Adored for his hard work and selfless love for helping others, Troy had a passion for entrepreneurship and never let the fear of failure hold him back. One of his greatest accomplishments was opening and running Direct Home Health Care for 18 years with his loving wife Lisa by his side. He was a general contractor and the co-owner of Southside Group Homes alongside Lisa and his closest friend and brother- in-law, Don Fox, since 2013. Troy was predeceased by his father Fernando Auginaldo Ilapit, his sister in law Tina Marie Ilapit, and his niece Tonya Marie Feagans. He is survived by his loving mother Ann Ilapit; his devoted wife Lisa; his children Travis and wife Katie, Arielle Haney and husband Nicholas, Justin, Benjamin, and Madison. He will also be missed greatly by his grandchildren: Jackson and Oliver Ilapit, Graysen, Kinley, and Owen Haney; sister Kimberly Franklin and husband Walter; brothers Rick Feagans, Scott and wife Madeleine Feagans, Patrick Ilapit, Bruce Ilapit; in-laws Lin Monell, Kay Kratchen and husband Scottie; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday January 7, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4759 Bennetts Pasture Rd, Suffolk. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-6 pm at the Church. Burial will be private.
