Yuki Witherow Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Yukiko Witherow, 89, of Portsmouth VA passed away peacefully on May 31st holding her son Gary’s hand. Yuki was born in Aichi Japan to the late Mr. & Mrs. Kunio Yasutome on February 10, 1933, and always shared so much of the culture of her native land. She was a devoted Christian and member of River Shore Baptist Church. Yuki married James Leroy Witherow in 1956 and they made their home in Portsmouth in 1958. Yuki was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a talented and accomplished artist, expressing her talent in so many ways; through sewing, paintings, murals, flower arranging, church projects (baptismal pool painting, nursery mural, vacation bible school, etc.) or just helping her boys with school projects. Yuki loved God, her family and friends and was a delight to everyone she met. Even to the end, her ladylike manners and beautiful smile were always present. Yuki genuinely cared for people and through her beautiful life we learned what it is like to truly put others first. In her free time Yuki loved to paint, garden, serve in her church and prepare meals for her family. Yuki is survived by her 3 sons, Gary Witherow and his wife Lineta, Eddie Witherow and his wife Debbie, Richard Witherow and his wife Denise; her eight beloved grandchildren, Eddie and his wife Sandra, Devon and her husband James, Kristen, Christina, Ryan, Brandon, Megan and Kevin and two great-grandchildren, Princess and Kinley. She will also be missed by her Japanese family. Yuki lost her beloved husband Jim in 1984 and we are comforted that she is rejoicing being by his side once again. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 6th from 6-7pm at Loving Funeral Home in the Churchland area of Portsmouth. A funeral service will be held at River Shore Baptist Church beginning at 11 am on Tuesday, June 7th. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
