Marion L. Moss

Marion L. Moss, 98, passed away on April 25, 2017, in the same faithful, gentle and loving way she led her life. A woman of strong Christian faith she noted John 14:2 as an especially favorite bible verse. She was born in Whaleyville, Virginia, in the farmhouse in which she was raised by loving and Christian parents, Lemuel L. and Annie Jernigan, who predeceased her. Living on that farm, she witnessed the Great Depression but never knew what it was to be without love, food on the table and clothes on her back. She was taught many values that she followed throughout her life - be kind, love your family and your neighbor as yourself, share your blessings. She was the widow of Lionel T. Moss to whom she was married for 58 years, and was also predeceased by her grandson, Bryce Ward, her sister, Thelma J. Greene, and her niece Faye G. Griggs. After graduating from Whaleyville High School, she left home to attend Business College in Norfolk, VA. She worked for W. G. Swartz for some time, then worked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in the Comptroller Department until 1970. After retiring, she worked as secretary at United Church of Christ, assisting several pastors through their tenure at the Church. She was a Charter member of the Church and was active in its Women’s Fellowship until recent years. She taught Sunday school for many years, and is still remembered lovingly by many she taught. She leaves behind to cherish her life her daughters, Catherine Liniger (Harry) and Marcia Edmondson (Richard); grandchildren, Brooke L. Heidelberg (Khary), Eric Liniger, Ross Ward and Tommy Ward; great grandchild, Bryce Ward; nephews James Greene (Norma) and Ronnie Greene; great nieces and nephews and many friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions made be made to United Church of Christ Women’s Fellowship 5900 Portsmouth Blvd. Portsmouth, VA 23701,Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd floor Bethesda, MD 20814 or charity of choice in her memory. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 pm Saturday in Loving Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the funeral home starting at noon on Saturday. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens will be private.
