Myrtle Crim

Myrtle Corprew Dennis Crim, 102, passed away peacefully at her home on November 14, 2025. Born in 1923 in Perquimans County, North Carolina, Myrtle moved with her family to Virginia at age 13, where they farmed land on Bruce Road. She graduated from Churchland High School and went on to work for three decades as a bookkeeper at the Portsmouth Sears and Roebuck. Myrtle was a devoted member of Churchland Baptist Church, where she found community, purpose, and lifelong friendships. Myrtle married her first high school sweetheart, William Michael “Mike” Dennis, and together they built their home on Dennis family land on West Norfolk Road. Later in life, she was blessed to reconnect with—and marry—her second high school sweetheart, Braddy “Billy” Crim. Her life was a remarkable testament to love, loyalty, and the unexpected joys of second chances. Known for her independence and tireless energy, Myrtle took great pride in her yard work—especially her lawn mowers—her spotless car, and her home. She found joy in caring for others and was happiest when she could lend a hand, offer support, or simply brighten someone’s day. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husbands, Mike Dennis and Billy Crim; her parents, Dallie and Harry Corprew; her sisters, Baby Catherine, Hilda, and Edith; and her daughter, Judy D. Ricks. She is survived by her sister, Neva Roane (J.A.); her daughters, Linda Garland (Wilson) and Laura Susan Chandler (Calvin); her grandchildren, Margaret Ann Rhem (David), Debbie Garland, Michael Ricks (Amanda Stiltner), and Mike Garland (Carrie); her great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Jordan (Randall), Connor Rhem (Kelsie), Caroline Rhem, Emma Ricks, Benjamin Ricks and Alyssa Hensley; and her great-great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Wyatt, and Margaret Jordan. Family and friends are invited to visitation at Loving Funeral Home on Sunday, November 16, from 4:00–5:00 PM. A service celebrating Myrtle’s life will be held at Churchland Baptist Church on Monday, November 17, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Churchland Baptist Church Building Fund, 3031 Churchland Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321.
