Nancy F. Minter

Nancy F. Minter passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Monday February 11, 2019, after a 3 year battle with cancer - she was 69 years old. Nancy was the daughter of the late Clarence and N. Irene Stotler. Mrs. Minter was a graduate of the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, where she met the love of her life TR Minter. She was the 1976 winner of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Competition, and the 1977 winner of The Metropolitan Opera Company. She declined both contracts to devote her life to raising a family – a Title she cherished to the end of her days with no regrets. Her music career is expansive, performing twice at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, The Spoleto Festival in South Carolina, and in numerous recitals with the former First Lady of Virginia Constance “Connie” DuPont Darden But she is best known for her unfounded love serving as Minister of Music for Covenant United Methodist Church (Chesapeake). Nancy was a founding member of the St. Cecilia Camerta, St. Cecilia Performing Arts Association and the Virginia Handbell Consort. She is predeceased by her husband Tex “TR” (01/13/2018), Mother in love Thomasine Minter (02/07/1993) and sister-in-law Pamela Tabor (02/26/2004). Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Robb and David Minter, daughter Elise Minter Voisine (Raymond) all of Portsmouth; 7 grandchildren, Lauren, Eric, Ashlynn, Tristan, Emma, Joshua and Jocelin, brother-in-law Larry Minter (Judi) of Middleburg, FL, brother-in-law Larry Tabor (Greenville, SC), sister-in-law Cherie Biering (David) of Jacksonville, FL, sister-in-law Diane Stotler of Orange Park, FL, and a host of extended family and friends. She was known to everyone as “Mama” and “Nana” so to celebrate Mother’s Day when the Earth is new with life, interment will be at the Albert G. Horton Veteran Cemetery in Suffolk on Friday May 10th with a Celebration of Life service at Covenant United Methodist Church at 2004 Dock Landing Rd./Chesapeake, VA afterwards.
