Owen Clayton Rose, Sr.

Owen C. Rose, Sr. 88, passed away surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home on August 3, 2016. Owen was the son of to the late Leon T. Rose and Ada Owens Rose. His brother, Leon T. Rose, Jr also preceded his death. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Frances Rose. Owen is survived by his children, Todd Rose (Sandy) of Carrsville, Owen (Pnut) Rose, Jr. Portsmouth and Beth Fulgham (Jim) Norfolk. Along with grandchildren, Nicholas Key, Kristina Canfield (Brandon), Kendall Irving (Seth), Jennifer Stence (Phillip), Ashley Rose, Melissa Pierce (Alan) and Jason Bailey. He also is survived by 14 great grandchildren, Elanor, Jeremiah, Hana, Terah, Ian, Pippa, Phillip II, Penelope, Shylah, Micah, Lokelani, Carson, Kayden and Scarlett. He is also survived by his niece Diana Pieroni and her family, Ed, Brian and Jamie. Also his special grand dogs, Willie and Lola. Owen graduated from Churchland High School, attended East Carolina University, and served in the US Navy during WWII onboard the USS Albany. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 1985 after 36 years of service and Northern Star Credit Union after 9 years of service. He was a 64 year member of the Masonic lodge, Portsmouth Lodge #100 and a 47 year member of the Knights Of Pythias, Atlantic Lodge #24 in Portsmouth and Patrick Henry Lodge #82 in Martinsville, Va. He was member of Westhaven Baptist Church in recent years. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the kind and compassionate care Owen received from BonSecours Hospice (The Hope Team), during his brief battle with cancer. There will be a visitation on Sunday beginning with Pythian Rites at 6pm at Loving Funeral Home 3225 Academy Ave. Portsmouth, Va. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Churchland Baptist Church Cemetery.
