Rev. Richard Thompson

Surrounded by his family, Rev. George Richard Thompson of Suffolk went to be with the Lord November 8 at Bon Secours Maryview Nursing Care Center. Born in India to missionary parents, G. Barney and Vivian Shute Thompson, he attended Woodstock School. Following his service in the United States Navy as a submariner during World War II, he earned a Master of Arts at Bob Jones University. A gifted linguist, Rev. Thompson and his wife of 64 years, née Myrtle Virginia Williams, served as missionaries in Pakistan, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States with The Evangelical Alliance Mission TEAM, Wheaton, IL. In addition to his wife, Rev. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Harris and husband Rev. David of Portsmouth, and four sons: Doug and wife Renee of Finksburg, MD; Dr. Jim and wife Anna of St. Charles, IL; Rev. Dr. Bob and wife Linda of Hickory, NC; and David of St. Charles, IL. Seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren also cherish his memory: Christina and Dr. Michael Davis and daughter Tristyn of Urbandale, IA; Chandra Snyder, Esq., and Martin of Virginia Beach, VA; Brandon Thompson and fiancée Carly Whitlock of Baltimore, MD; Wesley and Bobbi Thompson and son Colton of Felton, PA; Lauren Thompson of Towson, MD; Aubryn Thompson of New York City, NY; Briana and Howie Hutchinson and daughter Adele of Denver, CO; Calla Thompson of Denver, CO; Dr. Philip Thompson of Honolulu, HI; Cara and Michael James of Augusta, GA; Jenica Thompson of Wilmington, NC; James, Jeslaine, Max, Jacob, Jenna, and J. D. Thompson of St. Charles, IL. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Rev. Thompson at Loving Funeral Home on Monday, November 11, at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment at Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk will be private. The family wishes to thank the staff of Maryview and Bon Secours for their care for Rev.Thompson.
